War Memorial Competition

Idea competition entry for the War Memorial at the New Delhi, India Gate. The proposal is conceptualized as honoring the unsung heroes of the Army, Navy, and Air force through three different processes of remembrance, reflection, and reconnection. Exploration of below-ground levels; materials such as rammed earth walls (using the soil of the battlefield), mild steel (re-cycled from the debris of crashed aircraft); the notion of triangularity; and the underground crypt with a floating cenotaph cohesively defines the proposal.  A concept based on the notion of ‘trinity’ that not only represent the three main artliteris of defense system – army, airforce and navy, but also choreographs the entire experience of the war memorial on three emotions of remembrance, reflection and reconnect.
