This talk explored a fundamental question faced by every architect and designer: Where is one marching towards? It reflected on the importance of having a clear sense of direction in practice and how an enquiry-based approach to design can help navigate uncertainty, overcome self-doubt, and arrive at thoughtful and meaningful solutions.

Through a range of studio projects, the talk showcased the challenges encountered at different stages of design and construction, illustrating how each obstacle became an opportunity for learning and innovation. By drawing parallels between projects and their respective processes, the session highlighted recurring themes of curiosity, resilience, and critical thinking, demonstrating how valuable insights often emerge through the act of making and testing ideas.

The discussion also underscored the importance of embracing innovation and creative problem-solving, not as isolated acts of invention, but as outcomes of rigorous enquiry and a deeper understanding of materials, construction, context, and human needs. It reinforced the belief that meaningful architecture is created through a sustained commitment to learning, exploring, and engaging with the realities of the built environment. The talk encouraged students and young practitioners to trust the process of enquiry, remain open to discovery, and view challenges as opportunities for growth.
