In this presentation, students highlighted the importance of attention to detail at every scale and aspect of design. While form defines and shapes spatial expression, details enrich these expressions by adding a tactile dimension to the perception of space, materials, and design elements. Even small adaptations in detailing can significantly enhance the experience of space, influencing how it is perceived, inhabited, and enjoyed. Thoughtful details contribute to liveability by improving comfort, functionality, and the human connection to the built environment.
Details influence liveability by shaping how people experience, use, and connect with a space on a daily basis. While form creates the overall spatial character, details determine comfort, usability, and sensory engagement. Elements such as material transitions, handrails, seating edges, shading devices, joinery, lighting, and tactile surfaces can make a space feel more intuitive, comfortable, and human-centred. Thoughtful detailing enhances functionality, improves durability, and creates moments of delight that enrich everyday life.
